Assessments

I have chosen to include two assessments/assignments for the goals of my lesson in order to chunk the information together in a more cohesive manner. Instead of diving right into how to use the WAVE tool, I felt it was important for learners to be introduced to the reasoning behind the invention of the WAVE tool and why accessibility is necessary.  Since the learning goals are specific to the WAVE Browser Extension itself, the assessments/assignments are more flexible to allow for action and expression. Students are allowed the freedom to decide how they prefer to express or showcase their knowledge of the materials given and the questions provided to them. I’ve allowed for student to have personal choice of the assignment format as well as the use of any website they would like to use for the WAVE tool demonstration.

Assessment 1

Explain what the WAVE browser extension was designed for and why accessibility is so important.

Your explanation can take the form of text, audio/video, infographic, or any form of multimedia you prefer.

Assessment 2

Demonstrate how to install and use the WAVE browser extension to evaluate for possible accessibility problems using a website of your choice.

Your demonstration can take the form of a blog post, video presentation, infographic, or power point presentation. Submissions are not limited to strictly text-based options, images will be considered as well.

Items to include in your demonstration:

  1. Which browser extension you used (Google or Firefox).
  2. What website you’re using for your demonstration and why you chose it.
  3. Tell us about what errors, features, or alerts arise as well as what suggestions WAVE provides for making the page more accessible.
  4. What do you think about the WAVE browser extension and could you see yourself using it in the future?
